RECENT POST:

Finally! At least it moves, one step at a time.

A good news is about to happen to the provinces of Northern Mindanao. The long awaited Panguil Bay Bridge might be constructed anytime soon.

On September 13, 2017, a joint survey assessment of choosing a location for the column supports for the Panguil Bay Bridge, now tagged by locals as the "Bridge of Love and Peace" in areas of Tubod, Lanao del Norte and Tangub City, Misamis Occidental, has been conducted. According to Mindanaoan Broadcasting Channel, ocular site inspection and profiling were executed by consultants from South Korea, together with the engineering team from DPWH-Misamis Occidental, DPWH-Lanao del Norte 2nd District and the PMO-Project Monitoring Team.

This dream project was just a hope decades ago among travelers and business owners and even the common riding public especially the students because of the difficulty in its current transport system. Currently, the mode of transportation is thru a barge or a ro-ro transport wherein vehicles have to line up to hop into the barge.

The shipping company is taking measures to accommodate different types of riders and prioritize according to types. The bus is the first in the line since it has the most passengers followed by private vehicles. All trucks will be the least in priority and will be inserted to the vessel to stabilize the barge thru proper load distribution. But just like other business establishments, the shipping company has also a cut-off. During normal season, it will be at 9PM but is being extended during peaks at 11PM. During normal season, waiting time could be less hassle with at most an hour for a vehicle to catch a ride, but could be worsened during peak times. Seasons like summer time, Christmas, Holy Week, All Souls and Saints Day, just to name a few, vehicle waiting time could stress you out with at most 5 hours waiting period before one can finally go aboard the vessel, plus the waiting time before it will depart (approx 35-45 minutes) and travel time (approx 1 hour).

And when one arrives late or did not make it before the cut-off, choices are for them to take the longer route from Kolambogan-Aurora-Tangub-Ozamis which takes about 3 hours of land trip. Should one take this route, vehicle safety should be ensured like the basics of checking the battery, tire pressure, gas gauge, horn and lights and etc, or, decide to sleep out whole night near the port.

This bridge that will connect both the provinces of Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental is yet the biggest project in the locality that will be funded by the Korean EXIM bank under President Rodrigo Duterte's administration, with its loan agreement concluded last April 28, 2016 at the Bureau of Treasury in Intramuros, Manila. Once this will be realized, the riding public wont have to wait long in vehicle line up (1 to 5 hours), barge waiting time aboard (45 minutes) and barge travel time to destination (approx 1 hour).

This dream project will surely boost both the economies of the provinces as well as their nearby municipalities.
